Shimon Sandler has made an excellent post explaining what KEI is. KEI is a component of the initial keyword analysis and is a very important criteria to consider when you are choosing your keywords for your website, and the keyword competitiveness of these keywords. The Keyword Effectiveness Index refers to the ratio of # Searcher per Month over the # of Results per month expressed as a percentage. A quick example, if a certain keyword had 10.000 searches per month and the number of search results is 1,500,000, then the KEI is 0.66%. Obviously, the higher...

A lot of the time when I am explaining somebody about Search Engine Optimisation, I am faced with a lot of questions. It seems that a lot of people, you can’t blaim them, doesn’t know some of the terminology SEO’s use in their pitches. I will explain some of the terminologies that you might hear in sales pitches, recommendations or any other type of communication with your SEO. 1. I have recently spoken to a lot of people that tell me what I do, I charge way to much for. They told me they have seen websites that advertise the services that I offer for a fraction of the price. Apart from the fact that I actually try and educate the people throughout the whole process, I decided that it’s time to have a look at a few things that should trip some alarm wires when you see these things being offered. Some of the things to be very aware of and probably suggests shady business; 1. Broken English I’m sure we’ve all received...

Danny Dover over at SEOMoz recently published a great article that I think a lot of us will find very helpfull. Even though a lot of the tools listed in his Internet Marketing Handbook were tools I am already using, it is an excellent resource for anyone new to Search Marketing, but I definitely found a few interesting things in there too It is not a handbook in the sense of a PDF or DOC document, but rather a single page divided in several sections containing links to usefull tools and learning resources. Great stuff Danny!  Read More →

Remember the days where you’ve had one to many drinks and you felt Oh So Inclined to send your ex girlfriend/boyfriend a quick text message appologising or something similar, or messaged your boss with a rude message instead of your friend in the pub next door. With the introduction of e-mail, this starting happening as well. Lot’s of people were sending e-mails they later regretted on those alcohol induced late nights. Google said No More! GMail recently introduced “Mail Goggles“. It is basically a measure that check’s if you’re...

I have been getting a lot of client’s lately that all seem to have the same problem in common… Seriously.. from the last 10 websites I worked on.. There were 8 sites that did not have their domain.com forwarded to www.domain.com. This phenomenon is also referred to as “URL Canonicalization”. The problem with this is that search engines might index your page twice, as it will index domain.com and www.domain seperately because www. is nothing more then a sub-domain of the original domain. This can have problems for your website. For...
